This is part 1 of a 2 week course which is a ideal for mechanical technicians or candidates who are expected to perform basic fault diagnosis and preventative maintenance tasks on electrical systems. Recommended follow on course is the Industrial Electrical - Intermediate ELEC2040.

The course covers all of the fundamental requirements of electrical principles and practices to allow delegates to understand how electrical components and circuits work. It will cover electrical safety including electrical shock and associated procedures and correct procedure for isolation. Candidates will also be able to: Be familiar with the I.E.T. Regulations & Electricity at Work Regulations. Follow locking off and permit to work procedures Demonstrate an understanding of the need for earthing, bonding and overcurrent protection. Demonstrate an understanding of circuit theory. Recognise voltage levels found at industrial installations. Safely use a variety of test instruments to measure voltage, current resistance and insulations resistance. Safely disconnect and reconnect single phase and 3 phase supplies. Understand principles of induction motors and motor starting methods - DOL, Star Delta, Inverter.
